The name of the band couldn't be more apt. Few things rejuvenate the
soul like a warm fireside drink after an exhausting day in the snow. Hot
Buttered Rum has that effect. Their original songs are instantly familiar
and inviting, and their easygoing versions of timeless classics (the Beatles,
Hank Williams) belie the intricacy of the arrangements. Flute and clarinet
set the band apart from the recent surplus of old-timey bands, but so does
the simple fact of the band's sheer, infectious buoyancy.

With an array of influences that range from Stravinsky to Phish and from
Django Reinhardt to Bill Monroe it’s no wonder that you are likely to hear
buttered-up bluegrass versions of songs from George Michael’s "Faith" to
Bob Marley’s "Small Axe." The band melds past and present with stunning
instrumental and vocal virtuosity.
— Relix Magazine
Musically, Hot Buttered Rum delivers an upbeat, melodious melange of fast
picking; long, lugubrious bass; and woodwind notes. All five members sing,
with twangy voices and sometimes barbershop-like harmony that
complements their instruments wonderfully.
— Summit Daily News, Colorado
Hot Buttered Rum seems to have an ever increasing fanbase, and their set
was energetic and well received. The buzz that surrounds the
HBRSB, makes them an up and coming bluegrass band on the national
scene that any bluegrass fan needs to check out.
— Glide Magazine
Ask 10 people what they thought was best about this year’s High Sierra
Music Festival and you’re bound to get a list of 100 things. The festival was
just that good this year. The Grandstand Stage schedule on the main
meadow would have been enough for most festivals. Hot Buttered Rum,
from the Bay Area, opened to the largest crowd ever for the first band.
— An Honest Tune
This five piece has been making serious inroads, garnering rave reviews.
Though steeped in traditional bluegrass, the band resonates as much
with the folkies as those equipped with dancing feet. Having already shared
the stage with the likes of Darol Anger, Tony Furtado and Bruce Molasky,
they are one of the hottest bands out there.

San Francisco’s Hot Buttered Rum travel in a veggie oil–fueled bus because
they care about the environment, people. The acoustic fivesome’s sound is a
traditional sounding display of virtuoso pickin’ and sweet harmonizin’ all over
the grass, folk and jazz maps.
